Denise Clark

Occupational Therapist

Hi!  My name is Denise Clark and I am an Occupational Therapist.  I have been an OT for 29 years, 28 of them at Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities.  I have worked with students ages 6-22 throughout my career there.  This includes students with autism, cerebral palsy, dual diagnosis, developmental delay, CHARGE syndrome, Rett Syndrome, Down Syndrome and behavioral issues.  Students have ranged from a mild to moderate disability to the severe to profound range.  Treatments have included handwriting, fine motor, self care, feeding, vocational, social skills, sensory processing, neuromuscular and wheelchair management.

I graduated from The Ohio State University and am registered with the National Occupational Therapy Board as well as the Ohio Occupational Therapy Association.  I attend continuing education seminars several times a year.

During therapy sessions I encourage students to become independent in skill areas by repeated practice and adaptations as needed.  Many times therapy starts with a fine motor or sensory motor activity.  I allow students to make choices of the tasks we need to complete during the session to encourage self-direction and decision-making.  I like to include functional tasks that apply to real world application.
